JULIA Barretto is now officially part of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG).
In a Facebook post by the organization, they announced that the actress was sworn into the PCG’s Auxiliary K9 Squadron as Ensign Julia Barretto on Sept. 1.
Other volunteers who joined the uniformed service alongside Julia include Auxiliarists Ando Cruise Catipay, Jalil Laidan, and Harold Jocel Talan. The oath-taking of the four was at the PCG’s National Headquarters at Port Area, Manila.
As the most senior of the new appointees, Julia was given the opportunity to leave a message on behalf of her members. As per the PCG’s Facebook post, Julia “pledged to actively support the initiatives of the unit towards the delivery of humble and compassionate service to the Filipino people.”
Her boyfriend, Gerald Anderson, a lieutenant commander in the same team as Julia, witnessed the event.
PCG’s Auxiliary unit is a uniformed volunteer organization. Their members are tasked to help protect marine life, promote the safety of life and property at sea, aid in maritime search and rescue operations, and participate in recreational activities that enhance maritime community relations.
The K9 Squadron, in particular, is accompanied by K9 units or trained police dogs to help them in search and rescue operations. At the same time, members are also tasked to promote and reinforce animal welfare.(Preview)
