June 21 to 27 Iloilo’s Climate Resiliency Week

ILOILO – For people to be more aware of the impacts of climate change, this province has declared June 21 to 27 of every year as Climate Resiliency Week.

Recently, the 13th Sangguniang Panlalawigan approved on final reading an ordinance declaring such.

Angelica Bianca Requinto, author of the ordinance.

Dapat ang science, personal experience kag ang understanding sang natural and manmade nga disaster indi naton pagtalikdan,”she added.

Other objectives of the ordinance were to raise public awareness on illegal logging and mining, among other environmental issues.

During the Climate Resiliency Week, the province will conduct awareness activities including the Youth Provincial Convention, Climate Change Adaptation Workshop and expansion of the “Tanum Iloilo” program. Expected participants would be the youth, academe, different sectors of the community, and representatives from the national government, among others.

Meanwhile, Vice Gov. Christine Garin said the declaration of June 21 to 27 as Climate Resiliency Week would remind the public the importance of taking care of the planet.

Isa lamang ang aton kalibutan. Kon indi naton pag-amligan, at the end of the day kita gihapon ang maperwisyo ukon ang aton sunod nga henerasyon,” said Garin./PN
