MANILA – June Mar Fajardo already has it all in the PBA – from championships and Most Valuable Player awards to Best Player of the Conference citations.
But the San Miguel Beermen center is not closing his door on the possibility of taking his talents overseas.
The Cebuano big man – a four-time PBA MVP – has learned that Barangay Ginebra San Miguel Kings coach Tim Cone tried to get him a tryout in an NBA G-League team.
“Nag-iisip din. Why not, ’di ba?” Fajardo said after hearing what Cone said recently that he nearly offered the Gilas Pilipinas center to former PBA consultant and Dallas Mavericks scout Jim Kelly.
But the possible tryout did not push through, what with the Pinamungajan, Cebu native having a fruitful career in the PBA while playing for the national men’s basketball team.
“Siyempre masaya ako na ganoon iyong tingin ni coach sa akin,” said Fajardo. “Malaki ang respeto ko kay coach Tim … sobrang taas ng respeto ko sa kanya.”
“Wala naman,” he said when asked if he regretted that he did not get the chance for the tryout. “Pero kung siguro natuloy, mas thankful ako, kasi iba na iyon e. Ibang level iyon, ’di ba?”
Right now – with their PBA Commissioner’s Cup title on the line – the 28-year-old center would rather concentrate on helping the Beermen win their second straight title.
“Still, thankful pa din ako sa thoughts ni coach Tim,” Fajardo said./PN
