IF YOU think that this is the title of a new B-movie skin flick, fortunately no it’s not. Thank God we will be spared the horror of watching this ménage a trois. But yes, it is indeed a ménage a trois and made in heaven (pun intended) if I may say so.
What is, rather who are Art, Edgar and Soc? Art is Arthur Lascañas, the retired police sergeant and self-proclaimed member and hit man of the so-called Davao Death Squad or DDS. Art is also the same retired policeman who has had a kidney transplant and sold his soul and testimony to Antonio Trillanes IV and his financiers so he can afford to have his daily dialysis.
Art also claimed to have murdered no less than 200 persons, including his two brothers, in the name of the DDS.
Edgar is not Edgardo Lopez Suelo aka Bulak the artist/designer who recently had a one-man show at Museo Iloilo. The Edgar we are talking about here is Edgar Matobato, another self-proclaimed hit man and member of the so-called Davao Death Squad. He also claims to have murdered 200 persons or more for the glory of the DDS.
Edgar has this little problem – the people he claims he killed have this nasty habit of popping out alive well and kicking.
Soc, of course, is Bishop Socrates Villegas, the president of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines or CBCP. Soc has erotic dreams of being the next Cardinal Sin calling the faithful at EDSA and toppling down another dictator.
Soc was, unfortunately for him, born a little too late as there are no more dictators to topple. The last President that was brought down at EDSA was President Estrada and Soc was warming the bench during that time and was never called out to play.
Some priests have this penchant for playing with their altar boys while some like to play with their young female parishioners; others like to frequent habitats like “Classmate”, “Pegasus” or some sleazy strip joint in Cubao, and of course play with the inhabitants in those habitats.
But not Soc, as he likes to have a ménage a trois with self-proclaimed serial killers like Art and Edgar as between them, if you believe their claims, they must have murdered at least 500 persons.
It makes one wonder why Art and Edgar are seen strutting their stuff in the Senate and not even in jail or arrested as before public television these two confessed killing 500 people.
So what do these three – a retired policeman dying from a serious kidney disease, a two-bit con man and extortionist and a priest – have in common? Quite simple really, they all hate President Rodrigo Duterte for one and they all want something. Art and Edgar are in it for the money while Soc is for his egotistical ambitions.
To make matters worse, or maybe pathetic, Soc posted his Lenten message in the CBCP’s website Meditations portion aptly titled “Edgar and Art and God’s Mercy.”
I don’t know if I should throw up or laugh when I saw it, maybe both.
Here are some excerpts from the Manila Times’ March 27 article of columnist Rigoberto Tiglao:
“How can Villegas be so naïve or gullible as to assume that these two killers repented for killing so many people? I watched so many of the TV interviews of these two killers, and endured so many hours of their testimony: Did they ever shed a tear or become misty-eyed over their victims? Absolutely not.
“Yet Villegas makes up things to portray Matobato and Lascañas as encountering God after going through their ‘dark nights of the soul’ and repented. I very strongly suspect that Villegas plagiarized from some Catholic book on some saint, when he wrote: ‘Lascañas saw his life in a flash. He saw the whole mural of his life painted with the innocent blood of his victims…He was quiet and dumbfounded; speechless for days.’ What garbage.
“Villegas didn’t even consider the possibility, given the apparently good financial situation of the two killers, that the Liberal Party or just Trillanes may have paid them a fortune to blacken Duterte’s image, probably explaining to them that they could trigger an EDSA kind of revolution?
“Villegas didn’t even consider that the institution with more expertise on worldly affairs — the Senate committee that heard the testimony of the two killers — concluded that they were liars.
“Why is Villegas doing this? The only reason I can think of: For vainglory. In his mind, he is the political heir of Jaime Cardinal Sin since nobody was as close to the Hero of EDSA as he.”
So there, one day Art, Edgar and Soc will meet in heaven where 72 virgins are waiting for them. (brotherlouie16@gmail.com/PN)
