YUP, WE’RE talking here about the Speaker of the House of Representatives Pantaleon Alvarez aka “Bebot”, representative of the 1st District of Davao del Norte. And no, this has nothing to do with the current “talk of the town” issue against him.
For the uninitiated, the “hot issue” against “Bebot” Alvarez is his carnal relationship with a certain Jennifer Maliwanag Vicencio which, according to Philippines society’s “self-appointed guardians of morality”, is wrong and a sin against God. Of course, they did not specify which God they are talking about just because he happens to be a married man.
Take note people, I really don’t care who “Bebot” Alvarez shags. Why, he could be doing Leila “frailties of a woman” de Lima or the “Barefoot Lady of Naga” Leni Robredo simultaneously or in a group with both men and women and I have no issue. I assume they’re all consenting adults so no problem with me unless “Bebot” Alvarez will do it with animals or children, then we have a problem.
Of course, “Bebot” Alvarez will have some serious problems with Bolet Banal and Ronnie Dayan if he is doing all of the above.
Our issue with “Bebot” Alvarez and why we believe he should be removed as Speaker of the House of Representatives has nothing to do with his sex life at all. It is an issue that is close to my heart and to all of us Ilonggos. Personally, I have no beef against “Bebot” Alvarez but with a certain issue he is espousing.
In fact, if you consider yourself a true Ilonggo then you should be up in arms against “Bebot” Alvarez not his person but with this issue he is promoting.
Here are some excerpts from a March 28 interview by Carolyn O. Arguillas of Mindanews with Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez on his views on Federalism:
“The Speaker explained Visayas will be divided into two states: Eastern and Western Visayas. “We cannot allow Region 8 (the present Eastern Visayas) to be a state kasi mahirap eh. Samar-Leyte.” He said this region could join Cebu and Bohol to comprise Eastern Visayas State.
Western Visayas State, comprising Negros and Panay islands, would not be a problem because it is rich, he said.
Alvarez is proposing that the seat of the Federal Government would be in Negros but could not specify where in Negros.
“Anywhere, basta Negros. Why? Because Negros is accessible to Mindanao, accessible to Luzon and accessible to neighbouring islands in the Visayas. Look at the map. To connect Mindanao to Negros, you only have to ride RORO Dumaguete (Visayas) to Dapitan (Mindanao) and you are connected.”
To get to Cebu, one can also take the RORO, he said, adding a bridge could even be built to connect the islands. “In fact, pwedeng gawan ng tulay eh. Yung Don Carlos, basta may shortest distance. Tapos magpunta ka naman ng Manila, ang gagawin lang, Western Nautical Highway. Pag-cross mo from Mindoro to Caticlan, deretso ka na ng Panay. Another RORO, ayan na. Bacolod ka na,” Alvarez explained.
Now I do not know what “Bebot” Alvarez ate while he was in Bacolod with his girlfriend during the Masskara Festival that made him come out with this idea of making Negros the seat of the Federal Government and not Iloilo, the current and traditional seat of Region6 and Western Visayas.
I’m pretty sure it was not piyaya or the monay of Felicia’s Pastry Shop; it must be some other monay, equally delectable, I’m sure.
To make Negros the seat of the proposed Federal government is a slap and an insult to Iloilo and all Ilonggos as Iloilo has, traditionally since Spanish colonial times, been the seat of Western Visayas. Iloilo City is the original “Queen City of the South” and not Bacolod.
In fact, Negros and Bacolod were “colonized” by Ilonggos from Iloilo. Name any prominent family in Negros and almost always their roots are from Iloilo or have relatives in Iloilo.
All six congressmen from Iloilo should be up in arms against this proposal of Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez to make Negros the seat of the proposed Federal Government.
I call on Cong. Jerry Treñas of the Lone District of Iloilo City, Cong. Richard Garin of the 1st District, Cong. Arcadio Gorriceta of the 2nd District, Cong. Arthur Defensor Jr. of the 3rd District, Cong. Ferjenel Biron of the 4th District and Cong. Raul Tupas of the 5th District to stop this madness of Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez.
Well, that is if you are truly the representatives of Iloilo or just your plain old trapo politicians wearing the “Lacoste” symbol. (brotherlouie16@gmail.com/PN)
