LAST Wednesday, May 3, as I was monitoring the confirmation hearing of the Commission on Appointments (CA) at the Senate of Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) secretary Judy Taguiwalo, moi almost fell out of his seat when suddenly a scene straight out of Eat Bulaga segued into the hearings.
Here’s a transcript of the Eat Bulaga Senate episode starring Tito Escalera of that comedian trio “Tito, Vic and Joey”:
Sen. Sotto: On a lighter note, Secretary, when Senator Drilon and I have been looking at your personal information we found out that you have two children? Daughters’ ba or sons?
Sec. Taguiwalo: Yes, two daughters.
Sen. Sotto: But you’re single?
Sec Taguiwalo: I’ve never had a normal family if that’s how you call it, growing up. But it’s a non-issue.
Sen. Sotto: Ah, kasi sa amin, if you have kids, tapos wala kang asawa ang tawag diyan ‘na-ano lang.’
Sec. Taguiwalo: I teach women’s studies in UP. The definition of a family also includes solo parents. Thank you.
In Sen. Tito Sotto’s male chauvinistic and misogynistic kalye or street corner, single mothers are “na-ano lang” (just got knocked up).
And that makes Sen. Tito Sotto a misogynist extraordinaire, to be specific, a disgusting creature that leaves a bad taste in the mouth.
Before the uninitiated gets lost in translation, a misogynist is a person who dislikes, despises or is strongly prejudiced against women.
And extraordinaire means outstanding or remarkable in a particular capacity.
That “joke” or attempt to lighten up a serious affair, i.e., a Commission on Appointments confirmation hearing in the Senate, is totally uncalled for and out of place. Only an idiot or a toilet humor type comedian of which Sen. Tito Sotto is in real life, when he’s not pretending to be a senator, is capable of doing.
This makes one wonder how Tito Sotto became a senator in the first place. I can only speculate that out of the more than 100 million natives in these islands there are a lot of idiots watching that disgusting utterly stupid noontime show called Eat Bulaga.
Those in the audience during the Commission on Appointments hearings that laughed when Tito Escalera made that crass joke were without a doubt “devotees” of Eat Bulaga who most probably voted for him.
There’s something I would like to appoint out that everyone seems to have missed as we all concentrated on Sen. Tito Sotto and it goes like this:
“On a lighter note, Secretary, when Senator Drilon and I have been looking at your personal information we found out that you have two children?”
He was with Sen. Franklin Drilon when the thought came up to make a joke out of Secretary Judy Taguiwalo’s personal situation as a “solo parent”, and what are the implications?
Elementary, my dear Watson, the portly senator has this sordid reputation of being manipulative. It is not farfetched that Senator Drilon could have made suggestions to Sen. Tito Sotto to make fun of Secretary Judy Taguiwalo. After all, Tito Sotto is the known comedian and resident “court jester” of the Senate.
It is also not farfetched that when Senators Sotto and Drilon were going over the personal information of Secretary Judy Taguiwalo and found out her being a “solo parent” that they laughed at it and made some unsavoury remarks.
Again folks, it’s just a speculation but imagine this two male chauvinists looking at a woman’s personal information, ah you know what I mean.
I can just cringe at trying to picture out the life of any woman married to Tito Sotto; poor Helen Gamboa, she deserves a Philippine Medal of Honor for acts of valor above and beyond the call of duty.
If you’re a woman, just imagine spending your life and going to bed with a man who declared on the Senate floor during the deliberations of the Reproductive Health Bill that he is against women having the right to have satisfaction when having sex with their husbands or partners.
Let me leave you with a Twitter post of sexy comedian Ethel Booba made just 24 hours after that Eat Bulaga performance of Tito Escalera during the CA confirmation hearing at the Senate went viral:
“Sa street kasi namin ang tawag sa single parent na patuloy na binubuhay ang mga anak ay ‘responsableng tao’. Charot!”
So there, need moi say more? (brotherlouie16@gmail.com/PN)
