MANILA – Negrense golfer Juvic Pagunsan failed to maintain his fiery start in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics as he struggled in the second round of the men’s individual stroke play on Friday at the Kasumigaseki Country Club in Tokyo, Japan.
After being tied for fifth place with five-under par in the first round, the Filipino golfer fumbled in the second round as he fell to three-under par for 25th place.
The 43-year-old Pagunsan kicked off the match with four consecutive pars before having a bogey at the fifth hole, pushing him in the eighth place. He bounced back in the sixth hole with a birdie but bogeyed anew in the eighth before the match halted due to a lightning alert.
When the game resumed in the afternoon, the Murcia, Negros Occidental native golfer, bogeyed anew on the 11th and 13th hole to drop to 32nd place with two-under par. He scored one-under par in the 15th hole for joint 22nd place before settling for pars in the remaining holes.
On the other hand, Filipino-American swimmer Luke Gebbie ended his stint in the Tokyo Olympics after failing to reach the semifinals of men’s 50-meter freestyle despite finishing on top of Heat 5 in the qualifying round last night. He clocked 22.84 seconds and ranked 41st among the 73 competing swimmers.
