Kabankalan City road mishap kills 1, hurts 10

BACOLOD City – One person was killed while 10 others were injured in a vehicular accident in Sitio Lapni, Barangay Tan-awan, Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental, police said.

Police identified the casualty as the 33-year-old Vilma Bonifacio of Barangay Buenavista, Himamaylan City, Negros Occidental.

Bonifacio and the 10 others were on board a tricycle driven by the 31-year-old Mark Mallorca, also of Barangay Buenavista, when they met an accident around 7 a.m. on Tuesday.

They were navigating a curve when Mallorca lost control of the tricycle, police said.

Bonifacio sustained head injuries and was rushed to the Kabankalan City District Hospital in Barangay Tabugon where attending physician Dr. Jefty Castillon pronounced her β€œdead on arrival.”

Among those who were injured were Sallie Luncio, 25; Megie Anano, 35; Jun Jun Guilleran, 26; Joramel Marcelino, 30; Warren de la Cruz, 27; Robert Landesa, 21; Bernadeth Bonifacio, 21; Willy Lacio, 49; Margie Lacio, 42; and a 17-year-old minor.

All of them are residents of Barangay Buenavista.

They were headed to Barangay Orong in Kabankalan at the time, police said.

Mallorca was placed under the custody of the Kabankalan police, who also impounded the tricycle./PN
