Kabankalan mayor slams council ‘bullying’

BY DOMINIQUE GABRIEL G. BAÑAGA

BACOLOD City – Kabankalan City’s Mayor Benjie Miranda has accused his city’s Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) of bullying him.

The SP passed a resolution expressing dismay over the alleged hiring of non-city residents to various positions in the city government.

“Daw gina-bully ninyo ako. Kadamo bala sang resolutions nga makabulig sa tawo,” Miranda said.

During a live social media broadcast on Monday, several commenters pointed out that more relevant resolutions than the one passed by the city council should have been given top priority.

Among the resolutions included a proposal to set up a Land Transportation Office (LTO) in the city, along with supporting the preparation for the Drainage Master Plan, installation of street lights and closed-circuit television cameras, additional ambulances, garbage compactors, and strengthening the city’s Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office.

Miranda is asking the SP for their cooperation in bringing progress to the city.

In response to the allegations, Vice Mayor Miguel Zayco said they have been asking Miranda about the actual number of non-residents who have been hired by the city government to which the mayor failed to give an answer.

Zayco said they have received information that 23 employees were non-residents and most of them were assigned at the city’s Bids and Awards Committee, Technical Working Group, and General Services Office./PN
