KABANKALAN City – This city officially opened the 47th Sinulog Festival from Jan. 6 to 15.
Kabankalan City mayor Benjie Miranda said the Sinulog Festival is not just about merrymaking.
“[It] is, first and foremost, a celebration of life and of the blessings and protection that Señor Sto. Niño has given all of us,” the mayor said, citing the townspeople’s being able to get back on their feet after the floods and the sugar industry downturn.
“Today, we stand proud as a community and rejoice to celebrate the feast of Señor Sto. Niño and thank him for the mantle of protection he has bestowed on us,” the local chief executive said.
“We are all united in our resolve, as true and proud Kabankalanons, that we will forever stand firm of the ground of our faith to pursue our dreams for a much better and progressive Kabankalan,” he added.
This year’s tribal competition will be participated by barangays 1, 3, 6, Binicuil, Camingawan, Tan-awan, Salong, and Tapi.
For the fluvial competition, meanwhile, there will be 12 participating barangays./PN
