Dr. Cesar Yap Jr., a Roxas City councilor, and a responder from the Bureau of Fire Protection try to revive Sonny Llamas, a kagawad from Barangay Baybay, who suffered from a heart attack during a Sangguniang Panlungsod committee hearing on Monday, Nov. 19.

ROXAS City – A barangay kagawad died while attending a Sangguniang Panlungsod committee hearing.

The 81-year-old Sonny Llamas of Barangay Baybay had a heart attack, Councilor Cesar Yap Jr. told Panay News.

Llamas suddenly collapsed while at the hearing on Monday. Yap, a doctor by profession, tried to revive him but found “no more vital signs.”

The village official was taken to the St. Anthony College Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Llamas was with Baybay barangay captain Reynaldo Magallanes and four other village council members when the incident happened.

At the time an ad hoc committee was discussing with the officials the recent series of drowning incidents and environmental concerns in Barangay Baybay.

Llamas was the chairman of their barangay council’s committee on tourism.

Tupad kami sang gulpi lang nagginhawa sia madalum kag natumba sa ginapungkuan niya,” Magallanes told Panay News.

Llamas stood to ask the committee to revive the “bay watch structure” in their village, sat back down, and then fell on the floor, said Magallanes.

Samtang gina-revive sia ni Doc Yap may nagagwa na nga dugo sa iya bâbâ,” the barangay captain added.

Llamas had served the village for a total of 23 years alternating as barangay captain and kagawad, said Magallanes./PN
