KALIBO, Aklan – The number of commercial passenger flights at the Kalibo International Airport is increasing as quarantine restrictions are eased. The airport’s operation is now 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

According to airport manager Engineer Eusebio Monserate Jr., prior to the coronavirus pandemic in 2020, 30 international flights and 10 domestic flights landed and took off daily at the airport.

At least seven domestic flights are currently being catered by the airport.

Two international flights from Incheon, South Korea are also scheduled to arrive on June 17 and June 22.

The first direct flights of T’way Air and Air Seoul Airlines carrying foreign tourists are hoped to stimulate travel demand and push regional airport connectivity of Aklan to other destinations, especially from mainland China, Singapore, Taipei, and Macau by market players.

The airport also has implemented a range of health and safety protocols for passengers, airport personnel and stakeholders.

The province of Aklan is counting on the arrivals of foreigners direct from neighboring countries to boost the local economy and tourism in Boracay Island.

Since travel restrictions for domestic travellers were relaxed in February, over 500,000 travelers have visited Boracay./PN
