KALIBO, Aklan – A cockpit arena in Barangay Tigayon here has been temporarily closed for disinfection.
Mayor Emerson Lachica ordered the indefinite closure of the New Kalibo Cockpit Arena through Executive Order No. 007 issued on Jan. 23.
Prior to its closure, the cockpit arena was subjected to risk assessment by the municipal interagency task force.
A cockfighting enthusiast who recently tested positive for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) was found out to have been at the arena last week.
Lachica’s closure order was a precautionary measure to prevent the spread of the viral illness.
Contact tracing was also launched.
The inter-agency task force will continue to monitor the situation to gauge if it is already safe to lift the temporary closure.
The Tigayon cockpit arena reopened on December 2020, allowing only a minimum number of people since the start of the pandemic.
People can catch COVID-19 from others who have the virus. The disease can spread from person to person through small droplets from the nose or mouth which are spread when a person with COVID-19 coughs or exhales.
These droplets also land on objects and surfaces around the person. Other people then catch COVID-19 by touching these objects or surfaces, then touching their eyes, nose or mouth./PN
