KALIBO, Aklan – Police reminded the public to remain vigilant when talking to strangers to protect them from a modus operandi called budol-budol.
Major Willian Aguirre, deputy chief of the Kalibo Municipal Police Station, reiterated the warning to unsuspecting people to be extra cautious of budol-budol gang and would-be criminals.
On August 12, police arrested four women involved in budol-budol operation in Kalibo.
According to Aguirre, the swindlers befriended a 55-year-old sari-sari store owner from Barangay New Buswang, Kalibo, saying they are looking for old coins, P20 new coin and scrap jewelries.
He added that the suspects persuaded the victim to check the authenticity of her jewelries amounting to P50,000.
When the victim realized she was scammed by the female con-artists, she sought the assistance of Aklan Police Provincial Office and the Kalibo police station.
“Dali-dali nga tumakas ru mga baye, ag, nagbilin it P10,000. Datu mga alahas sa posisyon eot a it sambilog nga suspek pag-abot it atung kapulisan,” Aguirre added.
Police arrested the suspects and confiscated P10,000 in cash, coins and three digital weighing scales, among others.
The suspects were detained at the Kalibo police station. They were charged for the crime of Other Deceits under Article 318(1) of the Revised Penal Code before the Aklan Provincial Prosecutor’s Office with recommended bail of P6,000 each for their temporary liberty./PN
