Kalibo dev’t council meeting today

KALIBO, Aklan — Today, the Municipal Development Council here will convene to tackle the town’s budget and barangay subprojects, among others.

It will discuss Kalibo’s Annual Investment Program 2015 for the preparation of the annual municipal budget.

It will also discuss the list of eligible barangay subprojects for funding under the Recovery Assistance on Yolanda, or RAY, fund of the Department of Interior and Local Government.

Members will also be given update on the financial assistance for the construction of farm-to-market roads projects through the Department of Agrarian Reform.

The Municipal Development Council primarily aims to achieve participatory governance via collective decision-making among stakeholders.

Mayor William Lachica reorganized its composition by virtue of Executive Order 013 dated May 8, 2014.

It is headed by Lachica as chair and has representatives from nongovernment organizations and the news media, barangay captains, Sangguniang Bayan committee on appropriations chair, and the congressman or his representative, as members.

Under Republic Act 7160 or the Local Government Code, the council will formulate long-term, medium-term and annual socioeconomic development plans and policies; formulate medium-term and annual public investment programs; and appraise and prioritize socioeconomic development programs and projects.

It is also tasked to formulate local investment incentives to promote the inflow and direction of private investment capital; and coordinate, monitor and evaluate the implementation of development programs and projects./PN
