KALIBO, Aklan – A municipal transportation task force was recently created to clear all erring structures illegally erected in public roads in this capital town.

The inter-agency task force is in compliance with the directive of President Rodrigo Duterte mandating local government units to remove obstruction from roads that may hinder vehicular traffic and the flow of people.

It will be composed of the Department of Public Works and Highways, Land Transportation Office (LTO), Philippine National Police Highway Group, Kalibo municipal police station, and the local government unit.

This addresses problems on prohibited parking, loading, unloading of passenger vehicles in areas of the municipal and barangay roads, according to Sangguniang Bayan member Matt Aaron Guzman, who is also the chairman of the committee on transportation.

The Department of Interior and Local Government recently directed all local government units a 60-day ultimatum to clear streets and public roads which are being used as parking spaces for basketball courts, vendor stalls, vehicles and barangay halls. (With a report from Akean Forum/PN)
