KALIBO, Aklan – For violating the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) due to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), some 39 tricycle units were impounded in Kalibo, Aklan.
Mayor Emerson Lachica recently ordered the Kalibo municipal police station to strictly enforce the ECQ after he received feedbacks that the orders were not strictly carried out.
“Because of the incident, I have ordered the PNP to ban all the transportation in Kalibo with registered public franchises, even if it is to be used for private purposes,” Lachica said.
A number of individuals have been roaming around this capital town, especially the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) beneficiaries of this province, who were granted with cash aid under the government’s social amelioration program.
Most Aklanon 4Ps beneficiaries would need to travel here to withdraw their financial assistance from ATM machines of a bank.
Many tricycle drivers took advantage of the situation and ferried passengers around this capital town.
Aside from tricycles, other utility vehicles such as vans and jeepneys have also been banned by the mayor.
This capital town has been under ECQ after it logged three positive cases for COVID-19./PN
