KALIBO, Aklan – At least 860 blood bags are needed to address the shortage of blood this year according to Aklan Provincial Health Office.
“There were complaints of shortage of blood for Kalibo residents as there are rising cases of dengue reported by the Provincial Health Office surveillance team,” said Councilor Cynthia Dela Cruz on Tuesday.
Dela Cruz, chairwoman of the Sangguniang Bayan Committee on Health authored a resolution obliging residents, personnel from government and private agencies, and nongovernment organizations to support massive bloodletting activity.
“This is to meet the one percent requirement for the 88,000 population in Kalibo,” Dela Cruz said.
Barangays and private companies can request to the local health office for the possible schedule of the bloodletting activity, she added.
Aklan Blood Coordinating Council president Megs Lunn said they need blood supply not only for dengue but also for accidents and blood transfusions./PN
