KALIBO, Aklan – A pumping station project will be constructed to mitigate flooding in flood-prone areas of Kalibo town.

The funding source is from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), according to Kalibo’s Mayor Juris Bautista Sucro.

The pumping station costing P96,242,560.07 is located in Purok 2 C. Laserna, Barangay Poblacion.

The project, implemented by DPWH-Aklan District Engineering Office and under contract with C.T. Leoncio Construction and Trading, includes the construction of reinforce 630-linear meter concrete box culvert and one lot of pumping station.

Mayor Sucro said the flood control project will save lives and properties in low-lying communities during typhoons and heavy rains.

“Let us continue to build more resilient, significant and sustainable infrastructure projects for a progressive Bagong Kalibo in the near future,” the mayor said during the project’s groundbreaking ceremony on Friday, February 21.

The civil works will be completed by January 2026, or within 287 days, to effectively ease flooding in Barangay Poblacion.

Meanwhile, DPWH also has completed river control structures along Aklan River to ensure protection of residents and their properties against flooding and strong typhoons./PN
