Kalibo Sadsad Ati-Atihan top prize hits P1.1-M

KALIBO, Aklan – The top prize pot for Kalibo Sadsad Ati-Atihan contest has reached P1.1 million, slightly higher than last year’s P1 million.

The record-breaking grand prize for Tribal Big category is at stake on January 18, 2025.

It is going to be tough as the popular Kalibo Sadsad Ati-Atihan features the best of the best tribal big contingents from Kalibo and Makato.

Kalibo mayor Juris Bautista Sucro, who chairs the Kalibo Ati-Atihan Festival Board, has shared in P1 million in prizes for the Tribal Big, Tribal Small, Balik Ati and Modern Tribal categories this year.

Of this figure, Sucro will give P750,000 to the Tribal Big champion, while he allocated P150,000 for the first-runner up.

The second placer will receive P400,000, of which, P250,000 will be shouldered by the local government unit of Kalibo.

The rest of the contingents will take home P170,000 in total.

Looking at the contingents for this year’s event, defending champion Black Beauty Boys of Linabuan Norte, Kalibo isn’t taking any chances against their biggest title rivals.

Others vying for the top prizes include Tribu Linabuanon of Linabuan Norte, Kalibo; Vikings of Dumga, Makato and Libtong Boys of Estancia, Kalibo.

Also aiming for a Cinderella run are Maharlika of Dumga, Makato; Tribu Alibangbang of Linabuan Norte, Kalibo and Pangawasan Tribe of Cayangwan, Makato.

Winners of special awards for Best in Kalibo Ati-Atihan head dress, Best in Kalibo Ati-Atihan beats and sounds, Best in Kalibo Ati-Atihan street dancing, Best in Kalibo Ati-Atihan costume and Most Disciplined Kalibo Ati-Atihan tribe will receive P5,000 each.

The Kalibo Sadsad Ati-Atihan, in honor of Sr. Sto. Niño de Kalibo, will showcase 3,200 Ati-Atihan members in their vibrant costumes.

Tribes will assemble along Osmeña Avenue Capitol on January 18. The contest will start at 8 a.m. from Osmeña Avenue towards Kalibo Pastrana Park./PN
