KALIBO, Aklan – Tricycle drivers and operators here were urged to follow new tricycle fare rates and give discounts to senior citizens, students and persons with disabilities.
Don’t take advantage of the pandemic to overcharge commuters, according to the Sangguniang Bayan (SB) which passed an ordinance for a provisional hike in tricycles fares in 16 barangays.
Johnny Damian, president of the Federation of Kalibo Tricycle Operators and Drivers Association, Inc. (FOKTODAI), advised his 3,000 members to secure the approved fare matrix.
“Kahit approved na ang fare increase, dapat magpalista ang tricycle operators sa kanilang tricycle associations sa pagkuha ng fare matrix upang maiwasan ang reklamo ng mga commuters,” Damian said.
Since May, tricycles have been plying their routes with only two passengers maximum for each trip in compliance with strict physical distancing to reduce the risk of coronavirus transmission.
During the pandemic, a tricycle driver doesn’t earn a lot. A driver working roughly between 10 to 12 hours daily makes an average income of P200 depending on their daily routes.
Damian also urged the public to report overcharging drivers and operators.
“Dapat may fare matrix tayo para may maipakita sa mga pasahero. Huwag na nating hintaying magreklamo ang mga pasahero sa ating kapulisan,” he stressed.
The new tricycle fare is P10 within Poblacion Kalibo and P15 from Poblacion to SSS office, Gaisano Capital, Unitop (Jaime Cardinal Sin Avenue, Capitol Site) and Eastern Terminal outside of Poblacion.
The tricycle fare from Briones to Kalibo and vice versa is P35 while passengers from Bakhaw Sur to Poblacion terminal up to Hanging Bridge 2 will pay P20.
Passengers will be charged P20 from terminals to Andagao proper while P25 is the new tricycle fare from Sitio Proper Bakhaw Norte to Poblacion Kalibo and Kalibo Public Market and P30 from Sitio Karomahan Bakhaw Norte to Poblacion and Kalibo Public Market.
The new tricycle fare in other barangays are as follows:
* New Buswang – from New Buswang terminal to Bakhawan and Villa Peraz, P25; from New Buswang terminal to Buswang villages and sitios, P20; from Baybay, Tapo Tapo, Mercedes Village and Magdalena Village to New Buswang terminal, P10
* Old Buswang – along the provincial road going to Kalibo, P15; all sitios not along provincial road going to Kalibo, P20
* Pook – PATODA terminal to Pook Proper, P30; from terminal to Tugbungan Pook, P40; from Pook to Poblacion proper, P10; from terminal to Kalibo-Bayanihan, Mahabang Bantud and Baybay, P30; from Poblacion to Talipapa, P20; from Pook to Poblacion, P15
* Caano – from Caano to Kalibo, P20; and from Caano Terminal to Caano, P40
* Mabilo – interior portion going to Poblacion, P25; national road going to Poblacion, P20; from Mabilo terminal to Mabilo Proper, P50
