Kalibo to build new community hospital for better healthcare

AKLAN – Kalibo town in this province is set to improve healthcare access with the construction of the Kalibo Community Hospital, aimed at easing overcrowding and providing affordable medical services.

Vice Mayor Cynthia Dela Cruz, supported by Mayor Juris Sucro, led the initiative, which gained momentum when the Sangguniang Bayan passed Resolution 0459 on February 26, 2023.

An initial P39 million budget was allocated for the hospital’s construction in Barangay Nalook, Kalibo. This year, the local government sought additional funding from the Department of Health to complete the project.

Kalibo’s public hospital, Dr. Rafael S. Tumbokon Memorial Hospital (DRSTMH), serves not only the town but the entire province, often leading to overcrowding. While six private hospitals exist, many residents cannot afford treatment there. The new community hospital will provide a more accessible alternative.

The Kalibo Community Hospital will work alongside existing healthcare facilities, handling common illnesses and maternal care to relieve pressure on DRSTMH.

This community hospital marks a step forward in making healthcare more accessible and efficient, ensuring that residents receive timely and quality medical attention./PN
