KALIBO, Aklan – The Sangguniang Bayan here has passed an ordinance prescribing the operations of the New Kalibo Public Library in time for the Aklanon’s adaptation of the “new normal.”
The measure intends to make the public library as a free digital education hub and center of contemporary arts and culture for students, teachers and anyone who needs such services.
SB member Phillip Yerro Kimpo – principal author of the ordinance – said the public library expanded for new facilities and modern features to conform to the new normal situation.
New computers with good internet connection will be installed in the library for public use and also for distance learning and Tech-Vocational courses.
A space inside the library is reserved for the Center of Contemporary Arts and Culture. This could be used for watching livestream performances and events that could help prevent or avoid mass gathering.
Part of the improvements of the facility is to make its catalogue digital for easier access and use.
Kimpo said the “Aklatan Aklan” initiative will soon be promoted in the desire to network the digital catalogues of the different libraries in this province.
The local government here will collaborate with the Gregory Ilejay Castillo eLibrary for the digital archives of Aklanon literary works.
Likewise, the learning centers in every barangay of this capital town will serve as an extension of the library. (With a report from PIA/PN)
