SAN JOSE, Antique – The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) here is urging employers to properly observe the Kasambahay Law.

Benjie Requintina of DOLE said household or domestic workers should receive their salary based on the standards provided under Republic Act 10361 also known as Batas ng Kasambahay.

“The Kasambahay Law, which is now on its 4th year of implementation, provides a minimum pay of P2,500 a month for those employed in chartered cities and first-class municipalities; and P2,000 a month for those employed in other municipalities,” Requintina said.

The law likewise declares the provision of leave benefits where a domestic worker who has rendered at least one year of service shall be entitled to an annual service incentive leave of five days with pay.

For social and other benefits, a domestic worker who has rendered at least one month of service shall be covered by the Social Security System, the Philippine Health Insurance Corp., and the Home Development Mutual Fund or Pag-IBIG.

Requintina said employes should give domestic workers the opportunity or have access to trainings to upgrade their knowledge and skills.

“Our main objective with our advocacy on Kasambahay Law is to ensure the household employers comply with the labor standards as stated in the law,” he said.

DOLE hopes that the local officials especially in barangays will take an active role in monitoring the conditions of the  kasambahays in their locality as well as assist in coming up with the comprehensive list of domestic workers. (PIA/PN)
