MANILA – Kaya Iloilo returns to action after a two-week break as it takes on JPV Marikina in the 2018 Philippines Football League on Sunday at the PFF National Training Center in Carmona, Cavite.
Kaya is determined to bounce back after suffering a 0-2 loss to Stallion Laguna at the Biñan Football Stadium on July 21, head coach Noel Marcaida told Panay News.
“The team is determined to bounce back from its previous loss … and we are trying to finish strong and win the remaining games to meet our objective of holding on to the second spot,” Marcaida said.
“We really want to finish second because if ever Ceres Negros wins the championship in the PFL Cup again, the second placer in the league will earn the second slot in the 2019 AFC Cup,” he added.
This will be the fourth meeting between Kaya Iloilo and JPV Marikina this season. The former won their first three matches – 1-0 on April 7, 4-1 on May 5 and 4-2 on June 26.
But Kaya knew JPV will not be an easy foe this time. The latter came from two lopsided wins against Global Cebu, with Ilonggos John Celiz and J Baguioro anchoring the offense.
“We know that it will be a tough game with JPV coming from a big win,” Marcaida said. “It will be a game of consistency. Whoever is consistent has the bigger chance of winning.”
Kaya is currently on second place in the standings with 33 points on 10 wins, six draws and three losses while JPV is on fifth place with 17 points on six wins, two draw and 13 losses./PN
