KAYA Futbol Club-Iloilo fell short with its rally to suffer a 1-2 defeat at the hands of Indonesia’s PSM Makassar in the 2019 AFC Cup on Wednesday at the Panaad Park and Stadium in Bacolod City.
With the defeat, the Iloilo City-based football team was left at second place in Group H with five points on one win, two draws and a loss, while PSM moved on top with eight points on two wins, two draws.
PSM Makassar was aggressive early in the game and was able to snatch a 1-0 edge at the 21st minute on a header by Rizky Pellu from close range from a pass by Wiljam Pluim.
The Indonesians quickly followed this up with their second goal as Eero Markkanen blow past the defense of Kaya-Iloilo’s Jalsor Soriano to make a hit at the 24th minute mark.
Kaya-Iloilo got a break in the second half with PSM Makassar decimated to 10 man with the red card tag on Abdul Rahman Sulaiman but Darryl Roberts, Jovin Bedic and Arnel Amita misfired their hits.
The Ilonggos managed to pull one back late in the game courtesy of Bedic but was unable to follow this up with the PSM Makassar tightening its defense.
Kaya Futbol Club-Iloilo hopes to regain its winning ways when it plays host to Lao Toyota of Laos on April 30 at the Panaad Park and Stadium in Bacolod City./PN
