MANILA – Kaya Futbol Club-Iloilo cruised to its fifth straight victory in the 2019 Philippines Football League via a 5-1 victory over Global-Makati FC on Saturday night at the Aboitiz Pitch in Lipa, Batangas.
Jordan Mintah finished with another hat trick while Darryl Roberts and Alfred Osei added a conversion each.
The Ilonggos moved up to 37 points on 12 wins, one draw and two losses.
Mintah opened the scoring at the eighth minute via a penalty from the bottom left corner. The lead was quickly doubled for the Ilonggos with Roberts nailing from the top left corner.
Mintah then took advantage of a miscue by Global-Makati’s David Basa to convert his second goal of the game at the 29th minute before Osei made it 4-0 five minutes later with a header.
Mintah was able to complete his hat trick for the Kaya-Iloilo just before the break with a strike at the 44th minute. Global-Makati was able to pull one back in the second half with a Paolo Salenga hit at the 64th minute.
“Lahat ng players aware sa usual na nangyayari coming from a long break and it was addressed before the game,” said Kaya-Iloilo head coach Noel Marcaida. “We made sure our preparation was particularly tough. We worked specifically on sharpness.”
With the defeat, Global-Makati remained at seventh and last place in the standings with five points, on one win, two draws and 11 losses./PN
