Kaya-Iloilo, Stallion Laguna settle for draw in PFL

MANILA – Kaya Futbol Club-Iloilo and Stallion Laguna Football Club settled for a 1-1 draw in the 2020 Philippines Football League (PFL) at the PFF National Training Center in Carmona, Cavite last night.

With the outcome, the Iloilo City-based football club seized the solo first place for now with seven points on two victories and a draw while Stallion Laguna currently has one point on one win and a loss.

Kaya-Iloilo immediately seized the advantage after Ilonggo Jovin Bedic connected on a free ball following a cross by teammate Kenshiro Daniels at the 10th minute mark.

The Ilonggos had several opportunities to widen the lead but were thwarted by the defense. Stallion Laguna leveled the count at the 81st minute with Ilonggo Jan Jesus Melliza knocking in a cutback by Ricky Sendra.

Kaya-Iloilo then became aggressive with their shots as they attempted to seize the advantage with the closest at the 87th mark on a header by Bedic from a pass by OJ Clarino but was deflected.

In the first game, Jarvey Gayoso and Matthew Custodio each converted a goal in the second half as the Azkals Developmental Team scored their maiden win at the expense of Mendiola 1991 FC.

After a scoreless opening half, the Azkals drew first blood at the 73rd minute with Gayoso heading the ball from far post. It was doubled eight minutes later with Custodio tapping in a free ball following a missed free kick by Gayoso at the 81st minute.

With the victory, the Azkals notched their first victory in three matches to earn three points while Mendiola 1991 suffered its second consecutive defeat to remain at the cellar with zero points./PN
