CARMONA, Cavite – Kaya Futbol Club-Iloilo moved to a share of the top spot in the 2019 Philippines Football League after a 5-0 victory over Mendiola FC 1991 last night at the PFF National Training Center here.
Jordan Mintah scored a hat trick while Connor Tacagni and Negrense Jayson Panhay added a conversion each as the Ilonggo ties defending champions Ceres-Negros on top with 22 points each.
Kaya-Iloilo bucked the wet field as it surged to a 1-0 edge on a 24th minute goal from Tacagni.
Mintah made it a 2-0 count 11 minutes later after eluding Mendiola’s defense.
The lead continued to widen for Kaya-Iloilo in the second half. Panhay and Mintah made their offensive contributions against the paltry defense of Mendiola.
Kaya-Iloilo head coach Noel Marcaida said they prepared well against Mendiola after the latter came from a 5-2 upset over Green Archers United FC earlier this week.
“We can’t allow ourselves to concede an early goal against Mendiola,” said Marcaida, pertaining to Mendiola’s strong start against GAU. “It is important for us to have control the match early.”
Mendiola, on the other hand, remained at fifth place in the standings with seven points, on two wins, one draw and six losses./PN
