MANILA – Kaya Futbol Club-Iloilo and United City Football Club sustained separate lopsided defeats on Tuesday night in their AFC Champions League matches held simultaneously in different venues.
The Iloilo City-based football club bowed down to Vietnam’s Viettel FC, 5-0, at the Pathum Thani Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.
Viettel FC started the night by attacking the defense of Kaya FC as Nguyen Hoang Duc scored a goal in the second minute and followed it up by an eighth-minute hit from Caique Lemes for a 2-0 count.
Vietnam continued its onslaught in the second half with Bui Tien Dung connecting a header, followed by hits from Caíque Luiz Santos da Purificação and Vu Minh Tuan to record a 5-0 advantage.
Kaya-Iloilo got a chance to salvage a goal at the 90th minute, but Arnel Amita’s goal attempt was deflected by the defense of the Vietnamese champions.
On the other hand, the United City FC was manhandled by the Daegu Football Club of South Korea, 7-0, at the Bunyodkor Stadium in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
At the start of the match, Daegu aggressively snatched a 1-0 edge on Cesar Fernando Silva Dos Santos’ conversion. Edgar Bruno da Silva doubled the gap in the opening half.
Daegu FC continued its rampage in the second half with a 48th minute-hit by Kim Jin-Hyuk, and consecutive goals from An Yong-Woo at the 62nd and 72nd-minute mark to post a 5-0 score.
Daegu’s domination of United City did not stop there, as Park Han-Bin delivered from close range a 90th-minute goal, followed by Jeong Chi-In’s hit five minutes after.
The two Philippine representatives will try to bounce back on Friday evening, with Kaya-Iloilo facing Ulsan Hyundai of South Korea while United City FC will be battling the Kawasaki Frontale of Japan./PN
