‘Keep an eye on street vendors’

Bacolod City | Charter Day | Bacolod City Government Center
Aside from housing city government offices, the Bacolod City Government Center – more popularly known as the “NGC” – also serves as a tourist attraction. It is included in the official tour package of the Department of Tourism in Bacolod City.

BACOLOD City – The Sangguniang Panlungsod wants the City Legal Office’s (CLO) enforcement team to pay special attention on street vendors in the remaining days of the holiday season.

Together with the City Administrator’s Office and the Sectoral Concerns division under the City Mayor’s Office, the CLO was urged to monitor vendors doing business along the metro’s major streets.

Councilor Bartolome Orola said the sellers should be reminded of the city government’s solid waste management program so that they would properly dispose of their trash.

Orola said the city is expected to be left with loads of waste after the holiday celebrations.

According to him, most of these would come from street vendors.

Orola said the city government’s enforcement teams would be strict in implementing solid waste management laws.

Street vendors should also be reminded not to set up stalls on roads to avoid traffic congestion.

Aside from street vendors, people doing business at public markets should also be monitored, Orola added.

Markets need to be “organized” so they can be “responsive and effective instruments of public service,” the councilor stressed./PN
