ILOILO City – The adhoc committee tasked to conduct a fact-finding investigation on the alleged pilferage of relief goods at the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) stockroom has summoned two key persons of the office.
The two were CSWDO chief Alfredo Villanueva and stockroom personnel Edwin Florendo.
“Regrettably, the probe is not open to the public. Fact-finding pa lang ini, we are not on trial or hearing. Mamangkot pa lang kami kag makuha sang information so indi pa open sa public,” said City Legal Office chief Atty. Lorna Laurea.
The committee also summoned Atty. Mary Joan Montaño, chief of the city government’s Internal Audit Service Office who headed a physical inventory of CSWDO’s relief goods.
Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog tasked Laurea to head the ad hoc committee.
“We will ask (Montaño) about the findings of their physical inventory at the CSWDO stockroom,” said Laurea.
The inventory started on April 20. It was completed early this month.
There was an “excess” of around 400 sacks of rice “kon basehan ang in and out nga document,” said City Administrator Hernando Galvez.
The fact-finding investigation was triggered by reports that a motor vehicle was seen delivering CSWDO rice to certain retail stores.
Two CSWDO employees – Florendo and driver Jonathan Celiz – were relieved from their respective duties following the allegation.
Laurea said more personalities may be summoned in the course of the fact-finding investigation.
She also urged those who have information about the alleged pilferage of relief goods to come out.
Laurea said the ad hoc committee had not set a time table when to end the probe but she hoped it would be completed “as soon as possible.”
She also clarified that the committee can only make recommends and that it is the City Legal Office that has the authority to take legal action depending on the results of the fact-finding investigation./PN
