Koko seeks proper enactment of ‘Ease of Doing Business’ law

Sen. Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III

MANILA – Sen. Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III, the chairman of the Senate committee on trade, commerce and entrepreneurship, vowed he will focus on the proper implementation of the new “Ease of Doing Business” law.

On May 28, President Rodrigo Duterte signed into law Republic Act (RA) 11032c or the Ease of Doing Business and Efficient Government Service Delivery (EODB) Act of 2018, a measure that seeks to solve the country’s bureaucracy problem.

“If properly implemented, would make the country more competitive and help bring more business into the country,” said Aquino on Tuesday.

The law aims to streamline and modernize the processing of government-required permits and licenses necessary for setting up businesses in the country.

Pimentel, as co-chair of the Congressional Oversight Committee tasked to monitor the implementation of RA 11032, said he would work closely with implementing agencies Department of Trade and Industry and the Civil Service Commission “to ensure that all components of the law are maximized so that businessmen and the public feel the full benefits of the law.”

“The new law should not share the fate of other excellent legislative measures that were passed by Congress but not properly implemented,” the lawmaker said.

He said his panel would also be “paying close attention” to the timelines enumerated in the EODB Act, particularly with regard to the finalization of the implementing rules and regulations of the law and the review of required licenses, clearances, permits, certifications or authorizations./PN
