FIRST-TIME mother Kris Bernal is opening up about her pregnancy.

The 33-year-old actress is expecting her first baby with husband Perry Choi.

“I’m good. Everything’s well naman, thank God. Right now, our prayer na lang talaga is to have a healthy baby. Up until my 17 weeks, I’m still experiencing some symptoms of pregnancy but somehow it’s subsiding na. So somehow my energy is back compared to the first trimester. Pwede na [ulit] magtrabaho,” she said.

Kris said it was during her first trimester that was the most challenging for her. “I was almost [on] bedrest and talagang I just feel exhausted and tired every single day. So talagang kudos to all moms out there,” she said.

Now 17 weeks pregnant, Kris opened up about how pregnancy has changed her body and perspective in life.

“Grabe, I didn’t expect the drastic changes na mangyayari sa katawan ko, not just sa katawan ko pero sa lifestyle ko,” she said. “Everything changed talaga. You know, I used to be a fitness addict. I’m used to having a flat tummy, talagang muscles and toned. Almost every day I work out. Ngayon talagang nagbago.”

The actress admitted she became less vain after her pregnancy.

“Not just physical eh. … Pero sa lifestyle din, I realized that I became less vain,” she said. “Mas nakatutok ako doon sa health ng baby. I’m after that more than myself. Nagulat ako. Kilala ko sarili ko eh. Siguro dahil nga nasa showbiz ako, all I think about is myself all the time. Even nung nag-asawa ako, it should always be me. But then ngayon, nagbago ‘yung priorities ko.”

Despite the challenges that come with pregnancy, Kris said she wants to have more babies with Perry.

On motherhood, the actress admitted she still has a lot to learn along the way.

“I think when it comes to motherhood, no one’s really ready about it. Because it doesn’t come naman with a manual that tells you na ito ‘yung tama, ito ‘yung mali. Same with childhood, ‘pag pinanganak naman tayo, natututo na lang tayo along the way ‘di ba. So whenever someone asks me na ready ako, I always say na hindi,” she said.

“Kasi marami akong gustong matutunan along the journey, and I think there’s so much to learn about it pa. And nae-enjoy ko siya because everything is so new to me. Para akong nag-aaral sa school na lahat bago ‘yung subjects sa akin. Ganun ‘yung feeling. So nakaka-excite siya. Ang sarap lang ng feeling na there’s something to look forward to. And at the same time, this is not all about me na. This is more on the baby na talaga and the family,” she added.

Kris is expected to give birth this August. She and her husband — a chef and business owner — have been married since 2021. (PUSH)
