MANILA – L.A. Revilla and Kiefer Ravena – natives of Bacolod and Iloilo, respectively – were among the 23-man Gilas Pilipinas pool joining the 2019 FIBA World Cup qualifiers that will start later this month in China.

Revilla and Ravena were part of the Philippine team that captured the gold medal in the Southeast Asian Games men’s basketball in August in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Mentored by Vincent “Chot” Reyes, the Philippine team was slotted in Group B of the Asian qualifiers, together with the reigning FIBA Asia champion Australia and regional rivals Japan and Chinese-Taipei.

Gilas will open its campaign in China on Nov. 24 against Japan at the Komazawa Olympic Park General Sports Gymnasium in Tokyo before facing Chinese-Taipei on Nov. 27 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Manila.

Gilas cadets Roger Pogoy, Matthew Wright, Jiovani Jalalon, Mac Belo, Carl Bryan Cruz, Kevin Ferrer, Mike Tolomia, Von Pessumal, and Russel Escoto also made it to the “Gilas 23” cut.

Powering the pool were PBA veterans June Mar Fajardo, Jayson Castro, Calvin Abueva, Terrence Romeo, Japeth Aguilar, Gabe Norwood, Raymond Almazan, Allein Maliksi, Troy Rosario, Kevin Alas, and Baser Amer.

Naturalized center Andray Blatche was in the lineup, too, but may not play during the first two matches due to injury./PN
