ILOILO City – La Paz National High School and Hua Siong College of Iloilo Red Phoenix topped the Iloilo City leg of Rebisco Volleyball League on Saturday at the Ledesco Gym of Hua Siong here.

La Paz National High earned the qualification to the Western Visayas Regionals after topping their bracket by defeating the Central Philippine University and Santa Clarita International School.

La Paz National High of head coach Jigs Gallo was led by Laila Jean Bacalso, Cathleen Lou Jaena, Cherry Bagante, Marielle Dequila, Rhea Mae Tomas and Trisha Mae Pulmones.

Completing the La Paz squad were siblings Perlen and Paulen Yonson, Gerelle Audrey Panes, Erica Marie Veloria, Juliane Marynz Castaneda, Noilyngel Amen and Arzela Mae Bonda.

“Credit goes to the players for giving their best,” Gallo told Panay News. “We are bracketed with the tough teams in Iloilo City but my players showed their heart and determination to win.”

Hua Siong College of Iloilo, on the other hand, also made it to the next phase of the qualifiers after beating University of San Agustin and St. Joseph High School in their bracket.

The Red Phoenix team were spearheaded by Daniella Peregil, Jillian Jumilla, Jamela Mae Taguibe, Mariel Rhoda Maaliw, Sarah Ruth Llaguno, Jennie Mar Palacios, Sheinia Cejas, Jan Maryella Gumban, Mera Calderon, Jazzmin Martinez and Czarina Gerapusco.

Meanwhile, Cabatuan National High School and Santa Barbara National High School earned the right to advance to the Regionals after topping the respective brackets in the Iloilo Province leg.

La Paz National High, Hua Siong, Cabatuan and Santa Barbara are set to travel to San Carlos City in Negros Occidental this Sept. 7 and 8 for the Rebisco Volleyball League Regionals.

The four squads will compete with the two qualifiers each from the Bacolod City, Aklan and Negros Occidental legs for the right to represent Western Visayas in the Rebisco National Finals./PN
