MANILA – De La Salle University Lady Spikers needed only four sets to stymie archrival Ateneo Lady Eagles 25-20, 25-17, 24-26, 25-20 in the UAAP Season 80 women’s volleyball yesterday at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

Kim Kianna Dy led the way with season-high 21 points – on 11 attacks, seven blocks and three service aces – for Lady Spikers, which improved to 5-2. Lady Eagles dropped to 4-3.

Lady Spikers went on a fiery start behind Dy, Desiree Cheng and Mary Joy Baron for a 16-8 lead. Lady Eagles clawed its way to within 19-22 but Baron and Michelle Cobb countered with hits to close the set.

Lady Eagles was slightly up 13-11 in the second set when Lady Spikers uncorked 10 straight points, including 3 straight aces from Cheng, for a 21-13 lead. Dy and Ernestine Tiamzon put on the finishing touches in the set.

After failing to close out the match in the third set, Lady Spikers had a strong start in the fourth behind Dy, Cheng and Aduke Ogunsaya for a 20-14 lead. Lady Eagles got close 19-21 but back-to-back blocks by Tiamzon and Dy ended the match.

In the curtain-raiser, Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws cruised to its fourth consecutive victory after sweeping the hard luck- and injury-hit University of Santo Tomas Golden Tigresses 25-16, 25-22, 25-20.

Celine Domingo and Toni Rose Basas finished with 8 points apiece, while Negrense Bernadeth Pons and Kyle Negrito added 7 markers each for Lady Tamaraws (5-2).
