ILOILO City – A job fair dangling 14,261 employment opportunities is the highlight of today’s Labor Day observance in Western Visayas.
Forty-five local companies and overseas recruitment agencies have signed up for the Labor Day job fair at the Atria Activity Center in Mandurriao district starting at 7 a.m., according to Assistant Regional Director Salome Siaton of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Region 6.
Thirty-eight are local companies and seven are overseas recruitment agencies.
Siaton said the top vacancies for local employment are for the following:
* customer service representatives
* billing and collection representatives
* teachers
* customer service associates
* travel associates
* technical support associates
* nurses
* salesmen
* drivers
* supervisors
On the other hand, the top vacancies for overseas employment are for household service workers, service crew, delivery men, barista, labor cleaners, nurses, installer assistants, drivers for heavy equipment, operator CNC, and waiters.
So that their chances of getting hired would be high, jobseekers are advised to bring many copies of their resumés, transcript of records if available or certificate of graduation from their schools, and 2×2 pictures to be submitted to many companies.
Siaton, however, said this year’s Labor Day does not only focus on employment generation or jobs. There are also business fairs adopting the concept of Trabaho, Negosyo, Kabuhayan (TNK) in partnership with the Department of Trade and Industry.
TNK aims to create numerous jobs in key employment generating sectors as well as inform and advocate among jobseekers to consider entrepreneurial or business opportunities.
Employment Coaching and Entrepreneurship Advocacy will simultaneously be conducted today.
There will also be a help desk involving DOLE and attached agencies, and a one-stop shop service participated in by government agencies like the Social Security System, Philippine Health Insurance Corp., Home Development Mutual Fund, Bureau of Internal Revenue, Philippine Statistics Authority, Department of Foreign Affairs, and Philippine Postal Corporation.
