Labor Day job fairs post higher placement – DOLE

ILOILO – A total of 356 jobseekers all throughout Region 6 found employment in the job fairs conducted by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) at SM City malls in Bacolod and Iloilo and at Iloilo provincial capitol during Labor Day.

According to DOLE-6 information officer Amy Judicpa, this year’s job fairs were the biggest so far, with more than 200 local and overseas companies dealing with 5,293 job seekers.

Judicpa said this year’s Labor Day job fairs posted a higher placement of 16.3 percent for the whole region compared to last year’s 12 percent.

In two venues in Iloilo, the Iloilo provincial capitol and SM City, DOLE registered a total of 2,650 job seekers, of which 2,304 sought local employment and 546, overseas.

Of the total jobseekers in the said two venues, 1,667 applicants qualified – 1,273 for local employment and 394 for abroad.

Out of the 1,776 qualified applicants from Iloilo venues, 190 or 11 percent were hired on the spot.

In Bacolod City, 166 job applicants were hired on the spot.
