MANILA – A labor group said Wednesday it would file petitions for a wage increase in 4 more areas, after seeking an adjustment in Metro Manila.
The Trade Union Congress of the Philippines will file wage hike petitions in Cebu province, Cagayan De Oro City, and Calabarzon and Mimaropa regions “in the next few days,” said its spokesperson Alan Tanjusay.
The TUCP on Monday sought to raise the daily minimum wage in the region to P1,245, saying the current daily rate of P537 was not enough to buy nutritious food for a family of 5.
“Mas malaki iyung undernourishment issue doon sa mga provinces kasi mas maliit pa iyung kanilang minimum wage doon,” he told ANC.
Current salary rates and illegal contractualization of workers prevent the gains of strong economic growth from trickling down to the masses, he said. (ABS-CBN News)
