Laborer dies, pal hurt in road crash

ILOILO City – A motorcycle-driving construction worker died while his companion was injured at a road section being repaired in Barangay Mina East, Iloilo.

Charlie Romano, 30, of Barangay Manhut Sur, Balasan, Iloilo died of severe head and body injuries. He was driving the motorcycle.

His companion Jino Alimin, 24, of Barangay Sta. Cruz, Ivisan, Capiz was taken to the Iloilo Provincial Hospital in the town of Pototan.

The accident happened at around 8 p.m. on Saturday, June 30.

Citing statements from witnesses, Senior Inspector Maria Theresa Lero, Mina police chief, said Romano was driving fast.

“The motorcycle hit a stockpile of sand and gravel, sending the two men crashing on the road,” said Lero. “Romano was apparently drunk. Colleagues advised him not to drive after a drinking binge but he ignored them.”/PN
