ILOILO City – A laborer with a pending criminal case was arrested for possessing a homemade, unlicensed firearm and ammunition in Barangay Bagongbong, Barotac Nuevo, Iloilo.
Rogel Mendoza, 45, and a resident of the aforementioned barangay, yielded a 12-gauge shotgun with two rounds of ammunition and two empty shells of an M16 rifle.
Personnel of Barotac Nuevo police station and the Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO) served him with a search warrant issued by Judge Vicente Go of the Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 68 in Dumangas, Iloilo around 6:20 a.m. yesterday.
Mendoza had a pending case for attempted murder with the use of an unlicensed firearm at the Iloilo Provincial Prosecutor’s Office, and yesterday’s operation was conducted following recent reports.
IPPO director, Police Colonel Noel Aliño, said they are doubling their efforts against loose firearms and wanted persons.
“Kasi kung mahuli natin ang mga wanted at may mga homemade na baril, ma-prevent natin sila sa pagawa ng krimen. Isa rin ito sa ating tinututukan,” Aliño added.
