BACOLOD City – Negros Occidental vice governor Eugenio Jose “Bong” Lacson said the recent drug complaint he faces is only a “rehash” of the drug accusation hurled against him last year.

Lacson said he was confident that his name would be cleared.

The vice governor is among the two government officials in Negros Occidental who were tagged as drug protectors in complaint-affidavits filed by four individuals before the central office of the National Bureau of Investigation.

Alfredo Hulleza, Prudencio Mahilum, Cipriano Jimenez, and Cheryl Alburo lodged their complaint-affidavits on Oct. 3 to seek government action into what they claimed to be the proliferation of drugs in the province.

They said an “illegal drug cartel” has been operating in San Carlos City since 2007.

Lacson said the content of the complaint-affidavits was like that of the affidavit that drug suspect Manuel Huelar made public in October 2017 – only that Huelar accused him of being a drug user and not a protector.

Lacson said he already sought advice from his legal counsel.

“There is unnecessary time and attention I have to give to this. I don’t care what the reason [behind the complaint] is but I will face this and clear myself,” he added./PN
