Lacson ready to get Sinovac shot in public

BACOLOD City – Negros Occidental’s Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson is willing to be publicly injected with China-made Sinovac coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccine to boost public confidence in the government’s vaccination program.

“There’s more protection if you get yourself vaccinated,” Lacson said.

The governor is also appealing to the personnel of second and first level hospitals in Negros Occidental to participate in the vaccination as they were the government’s top priority.

Earlier, Lacson said he enlisted for inoculation with AstraZeneca vaccine, the one that his provincial government ordered.

But because there is still no word as to when it would be delivered, Lacson said he might as well just have Sinovac.

“Look at what’s happening in Manila, especially with private hospitals. St. Luke’s Medical Center is even asking for additional vials because after the first day of vaccination with Sinovac, there are more health workers willing to be vaccinated,” he stressed.

Over 487,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccines arrived in the Philippines last night.

Although there has been no decision yet as to where it would be distributed, the National Immunization Technical Advisory Group is eyeing to inoculate it on senior healthcare workers who were unable to receive the Sinovac vaccines.

Two days after the vaccine’s rollout in the country, around 8,559 health workers have already received their first of two jabs./PN
