MANILA – Negrense fighter Rogen Ladon claimed his second silver medal overseas after placing second in the 2nd Kapolri Cup Boxing International Open in Indonesia.
The Bago City, Negros Occidental native lost to Japanese fighter Ryuseu Baba in a close decision 3-2 in the men’s flyweight class Monday night.
On his way to the final round Ladon knocked out Budi Gunawan in the quarterfinals and edged Mohamed Hanurdeen Bin Hamid after the referee halted their match by second round in the semifinals.
Just last month Ladon – a 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics campaigner – also finished with a silver medal during the 2018 President’s International Boxing Cup in Astana, Kazakhstan.
The Philippine delegation to the Indonesia contest captured gold medals courtesy of veteran boxers Josie Gabuco and Nesthy Petecio and newcomer Ramel Macado Jr.
Gabuco won the women’s light flyweight division by beating Endang 5-0 while Petecio hurdled Yuong Thi Vy of Vietnam 4-1 for the women’s featherweight class title. Macado overcame Cornelos K. Wangu Langu 4-1 to snag the men’s light flyweight division crown.
Irish Magno and Ronald Chavez Jr. delivered bronze medals for the Philippines./PN
