MANILA â National University Lady Bulldogs vented its ire on University of the Philippines Lady Maroons with a 25-23, 25-23, 25-17 straight set win in the UAAP Season 80 womenâs volleyball yesterday at the San Juan Arena.
Jaja Santiago bounced back from her poor performance against Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws on Wednesday with 17 points to lead the way for Lady Bulldogs, which finished off the first round of eliminations with a 6-1 win-loss slate.
âAfter we lost, move on right away ang aming attitude. Itong game sa UP, before we started, sabi namin na this has to be a statement game,â said Lady Bulldogs head coach Babes Castillo.
Both teams had a tight exchange early in the opening set with the scores tied at 16-all. Lady Bulldogs slowly created distance behind Jasmine Nabor and Risa Sato for a 24-20 lead. Lady Maroons rallied to within 23-24 but Lady Bulldogs escaped on a Santiago hit.
Lady Bulldogs got the early lead in the second set with hits from Santiago but Lady Maroons rallied back to snatch a 19-17 lead. Santiago and Risa Sato, however, connived in an end-set run to put Lady Bulldogs up 2-0 sets.
Lady Bulldogs had a strong start in the third set to build a 13-8 lead on attacks by Santiago. Lady Maroons came to within 12-15 but Lady Bulldogs had another run behind Audrey Paran, Roselyn Doria and Jorelle Singh for a 22-15 advantage.
Diana Carlos led the way with 15 points, on 14 attacks and a service ace, while Maria Lina Molde added 11 markers for Lady Maroons, which dropped to sixth place with a 2-5 win-loss card./PN
