MANILA – De La Salle University Lady Spikers made a quick work of the University of the East Lady Warriors, 25-17, 25-16, 25-19, in UAAP Season 81 women’s volleyball on Wednesday at the San Juan Arena.
Ilongga Aduke Ogunsaya was hailed as the player of the match for the three-time defending champions Lady Spikers with 10 points, on eight attacks, one block and one service ace.
With the victory, the Lady Spikers improved its record to 10-3 win-loss card and assuring them of at least a playoff for the last twice-to-beat incentive in the quarterfinals round.
Both teams traded leads early in the first set with the score tied at 13-all before the Lady Spikers surged to a 19-14 lead on hits by Desiree Cheng and Lourdes Clemente. DLSU later grew the lead to 24-17 on points from Cheng and Jolina dela Cruz.
The Lady Warriors tried to keep in step with the Lady Spikers early in the second set before the latter slowly created distance from her opponent on shots from May Luna and Norielle Ipac.
UE got to a strong start in the third set to take an 8-6 edge but DLSU rallied to tie the score at 14-all before pulling away for good on conversions by Cheng, Agunsaya and Ynna Hatulan.
With the defeat, the Lady Warriors slumped further in the standings with 3-10 win-loss card and will close their elimination round match against league-leader Ateneo Lady Eagles on Sunday./PN
