MANILA – De La Salle University Lady Spikers vented its ire on the National University Lady Bulldogs with a decisive 25-20, 25-18, 25-10 victory in the UAAP Season 81 women’s volleyball on Wednesday night at San Juan Arena.
Desiree Cheng led the way with season-high 17 points, on 14 attacks, two service aces, and a block, while Ernestine Tiamzon contributed 11 markers for the defending champions Lady Spikers.
With the victory, the Lady Spikers forces a tie with the University of Santo Tomas Golden Tigresses at no. 2 spot with 6-3 win-loss slate behind league-leader Ateneo de Manila University Lady Eagles (7-1).
Still hurting from their stunning defeat to University of the Philippines Lady Maroons, the Lady Spikers started strong in the opening set and was able to build a 20-15 lead before preventing the Lady Bulldogs from coming close.
The Lady Spikers carried the momentum in the second set where they went up by as much as 23-17 before dropping the hammer on the rookie-laden Lady Bulldogs in the third frame with a 24-9 edge.
“Kailangan natin maniwala sa team natin, maniwala sa sarili natin. Hindi kalaban ang magpapanalo sa atin, tayo ang gumalaw, tayo ang maghirap para manalo tayo,” said Lady Spikers mentor Ramil de Jesus.
Roselyn Doria was the lone double-digit scorer for the Lady Bulldogs with 11 points, while Ilongga rookie Princess Robles was held to eight markers NU slid down to 2-7 card./PN
