MANILA – Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws rallied from a set down to beat University of the East Lady Warriors, 25-15, 16-25, 12-25, 25-22, 17-15 in UAAP Season 81 women’s volleyball on Saturday at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
Ivana Agudo was hailed as the player of the match after finishing with 12 points, on 11 attacks and a service ace, for the Lady Tamaraws, which improved to 6-3 win-loss record.
Facing a 1-2 set deficit heading into the fourth frame, the Lady Tamaraws jumped to an 8-5 lead but the Lady Warriors forced a deadlock at 19-all before FEU forced a fifth set with consecutive hits.
In the deciding set, both teams traded leads early in the fifth set with the Lady Tamaraws slightly up at 8-7 before coming up with attacks from Agudo to take a 12-8 lead.
The Lady Tamaraws reached the match points at 14-11 but the Lady Warriors mounted a huge fight back and even took a 15-14 edge on back-to-back hits by Lyn Olarve and an attack by Judith Abil.
An error by the Lady Warriors, however, forced the final draw of the match at 15-all before Jerrili Malabanan rose to the occasion for the Lady Tamaraws with two straight points for the win.
With the defeat, the Lady Warriors dropped to 2-7 win-loss card denying them a rare two-game winning streak./PN
