MANILA – Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws took advantage of an injury-plagued University of Santo Tomas Golden Tigresses to take a 19-25, 25-19, 25-20, 27-25 win in the UAAP Season 81 women’s volleyball on Saturday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Celine Domingo led the way with 17 points, on nine attacks, six blocks and two service aces, while Heather Guino-o and Lycha Ebon added 14 and 11 markers, respectively, for the Lady Tamaraws (2-2).

Helping Lady Tamaraws’ victory was Golden Tigresses’ star Milena Alessandrini exiting with knee injury in the second set and Cherry Rondina and Ejiya Laure sustaining injuries down the stretch.

After dropping the opening set, the Lady Tamaraws struggled early in the second set before taking advantage of Alessandrini’s absence to turn a slim 18-17 lead to a 25-19 set win on an 8-2 scoring run.

The Lady Tamaraws continued to roll in the third frame as it surged to an 11-6 advantage. It grew further to 23-15 before the UST cut it to 19-24 before escaping a set-clinching hit.

The Golden Tigresses tried to stay alive in the fourth set as it kept the match close and forced a deadlock at 24-all. Back-to-back miscues by Laure handed the victory to the Lady Tamaraws.

Laure top-scored with 20 points, all on attacks, while Rondina submitted 16 markers, on 15 attacks, two service aces and a block, for the Golden Tigresses, which dropped to 2-2./PN
